Welcome

So glad to meet you! I am Amy - a curious, studious human who cares. I spent a lot of time wondering what I should write here: what would sound professional, what you might be looking for, what might draw you in or turn you away. Eventually I realized the only real option was to be honest on the internet, which is…surprisingly confusing.

My goal is for all of us to live well together. I spend my time exploring any avenues related to that goal, practicing wellness and healing with myself and others, and then just living a very human life...you know...cooking and walking and trying to get a recommended amount of sleep, and talking to friends and family and neighbors, and wondering if I show up well in their lives, and finding new songs that I obsess over, and challenging myself to read the five books I just bought, before I even think of buying one more.

I have a lot of training. At the end of my graduate career as I was pulling together everything to prove I was allowed to graduate, I realized that I had taken about 50 credits too many. It was humbling, but also clarifying: I care. I care that there is information that will help. I care that we all live well together, and I do what I can to find out about that.

My professional path includes extensive training in couple and family therapy and years of work in an integrated medical setting with clients ranging from age three to seventy-eight. Through my training I have had placements in several schools, a prison, juvenile detention, an inpatient facility, a couple of group homes, residential care, and general outpatient. Every person and place matters, and those experiences have shaped me deeply. My early interest in attachment led me to advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, which also became the focus of my dissertation. Along the way, I’ve studied attachment-based family models, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, somatic approaches, and the Enneagram.

My best work comes from following my current curiosity. Lately, I have been especially drawn to questions of meaning and purpose. What happens when we live from our deepest strengths? When we're honest and courageous about what we bring to the world, and trust ourselves to work through what gets in the way? I often find myself telling clients, "You can trust yourself. Let's sit with that. You can trust yourself."

In Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl wrote, “Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.’” His words feel as relevant now as ever. I’d love to be curious with you about the why of living.

Services

Somatic and systemic processing in a supportive therapeutic relationship is the foundation of my work. Through identifying your needs and listening closely, we can attend to what you need most. From there, I select from various interventions and systems to support your purpose, resilience, recovery, and growth. Even clients who do not expect to benefit from or enjoy therapy report it was more effective and more enjoyable than they predicted. While I meet you with empathy where you are, I am also dedicated to helping you shift in the ways you desire.

All of my services are self pay (with the option of a superbill that can be submitted to insurance) to allow for flexibility in your care. Once we meet and assess your needs, we can set a schedule that will best fit your specific circumstances. I provide standard appointments (1 hour; rate = $200), extended appointments (typically 90-120 minutes long), intensives (3-6 hours, with option for multiple days as needed), and brief appointments (30 minutes).

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”

- Fred Rogers
